POSITION SUMMARY - Quality Engineer

Reporting to the Quality Line Lead, the Quality Engineer will play a key role in…developing control plans, conducting Product Failure Modes and Effects Analysis for multiple areas of assembly, and working with Winnipeg on issues brought up from the assembly line. This position will assist in tracking quality assurance metrics (write ups per coach for both Pembina and Winnipeg). To assist the Quality Technicians in interpreting standards and to help create/or modify standards to meet our changing environment is a key point of this position. 


  • Lead and manage problem solving related to design, manufacturing, supplied parts, inspection processes and equipment
  • Plans/conducts inspection, testing, analysis & design activities to ensure product quality
  • Manage processes and design change at suppliers and MCI to assure no negative impact to coach quality and reliability
  • Support manufacturing through problem solving training and Continuous Improvement activities. 
  • Conduct customer and field concern investigation and countermeasure to minimize impact to customer and cost
  • Share and adopt best practices for in-house and supplier process
  • Deploy coach quality system improvement activities for customer satisfaction issues
  • Recommends continuous improvement activities, product & process parameters & procedural systems.


  • Engineering Degree
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge on the use of inspection instruments, gages and devices for successful analysis of parts and assemblies
  • Strong analytical skills, high motivation and strong planning and organization skills
  • Ability to clearly explain concepts to individuals with varying degrees of technical knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office required.  Experience with other quality software applications beneficial. (e.g. statistical analysis) 
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification
  • Experience in Large vehicle/automotive production
  • Previous Audit experience

The Manufacturing Engineering Technologist (Electrical) works closely with and supports the production team and electricians by providing technical support on issues related to the coach build and improve the overall build process.


  • Assists electricians and production with the first and subsequent builds of new electrical systems or revisions to existing systems.
  • Perform extensive troubleshooting of malfunctions, using complex electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Install new equipment and instrumentation, performing all final adjustments and calibrations to place the system into operation.
  • Provides point of use routing and the assembly sequence for all components through the subassembly and coach assembly line.
  • Prepares proposed design changes or revisions to correct the current design.
  • Review technical drawings and project documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy and quality of control engineering designs.
  • Continually identifies, suggests and implements studies and reports to prevent repetitive malfunctions and to reduce the overall cost of the coach.
  • Assists with audits that measure the bill of material and routing accuracies; identifying root cause of inaccuracies.
  • Review, Calibrate and adjust a wide variety of equipment..
  • Researches the latest technology and manufacturing practices or identifies improvements to current technology/practices/processes and introduces these into production.
  • Attends Kaizen events where a cross functional team will review given areas and make marked improvements in process.
  • Prepares documentation for production as needed to ensure coaches are built per coach design and customer requirements (procedures, work instructions, visual aids, etc.).



  • Accredited 2-year electrical associate/technical degree or acceptable equivalent of education and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical standards.
  • English language fluency (read, write, speak and understand).
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and documentation (e.g. blue prints).
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Process Oriented.
  • Computer skills: typing, ability to use of Microsoft Office and Windows, etc.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience working with people in a manufacturing environment.
