North Dakota businesses looking to invest in automation can now apply for the state’s Automation Tax Credit program, the Department of Commerce announced Thursday, November 6th.

The program offers income tax credits to primary sector businesses that purchase or lease equipment to automate manufacturing or animal agriculture processes.

Eligible businesses can receive a credit worth up to 15% of qualifying expenses. The state has set aside a total of $3 million for the program this year, with portions reserved for first-time applicants and animal agriculture operations.

The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. (Central) on January 31, 2026.
